Braid – The Faerytale Brigade & The Promise

The origin fellowship of the Quest and the vow that launched it. The Faerytale Brigade: James Vogel, Veronica Varlow, Zina Brown, Burke Hefner, and Peter — a group of beings who embody the energies of story, recognized as such from the Mythica perspective even while Peter was still learning to navigate that perspective in New York.

The hinge: 2002’s “The Promise” — leaving New York, Peter promises Vogel he will return with the map of the Mythica. The whole outward Quest — the departure into the world in 2002, the synchronicity-following that leads to “The Garden Island” and everything after — unfolds under this vow. The Brigade is the NYC-origin face of the fellowship braid, distinct from the Pacific Northwest constellation of The People of Faerie: this is the company of story-bearers present BEFORE the departure, who witnessed the caterpillar before the chrysalis, and to whom the map is owed.

Structural function: this braid holds the Quest’s promissory architecture — the Mythica as a debt of honor to the fellowship of origin. “Keeping the Promise” is the return-arc counterpart: the map, delivered. Any chapter where the vow to Vogel or the Brigade energy surfaces should link here.
