The Quest continues, with the Mythica making huge, huge jumps in clarity and coherence through long hours at the library and then acting as a chariot driver in order to sustain my existence, all of which has been part of the ongoing devotion into Story and what I have had available to me out of experience.

The 7th step on air is one of betrayal. One of the keys to this card is that the betrayal is clear. This is not an act of subtle subterfuge, it is seen, by everyone involved. Singular and collective, in the twilight hour I would realize that I was protected, the sun had set, yet the bats swooped in, collecting the mosquitoes that otherwise would have bothered me. I have memory stacked on memory of looking up and seeing bats circling a short few inches above me, an honor guard to my evening work. The archaic naming of bats is flittermouse. Microbats, and the larger bats they evolved from, are their own independent ancient mammalian line. Current science says that flight in mammals has only evolved once, that all bats are evolved from tree climbing mammals that leaped down from branch to branch, evolving from falling into flying. In many ways, bats fly even better than birds do. As a species, they are the archetype of owning liminal spaces, to bridge the way from the underworld to the sky, to rule the darkness with clear eyesight, and to see with their ears as well as their eyes; honed for vibrational feedback, such that they navigate, hunt, and communicate instantly through their ability to send, receive, and accurately respond to sound vibrations. Bats have made an ecological home for themselves world wide, settling on remote islands and deep into the arctic circle. They are strongest in the jungle, and the cave, by being in community. As a totemic energy, they hold aspects of death, rebirth, and transformation, they are mediators between worlds. They are so strongly this, that the mythology is consistent throughout cultures world round, into the depths of prehistory, and looking into the future.BatRebirth
