Braid – Deva Connection
The lifelong constant beneath every other braid: communion with the deva, the elementals, and the aina as the substrate of the Quest. Peter’s intrinsic perspective is not human-centric but grove-centric — cities and islands are living intelligences (the deva of New York, the aina of Hawai’i), and from his vantage the people are cells inside those larger beings. The tabula-rasa devic-elemental constitution means this communion was native from the start; the Quest is the gradual revelation of its structure.
Key stations: “Deva of York” (2002) — open communion with the living intelligence of New York City during the Age of Delirium. “Pacha Mama” (2002) — first encounter with ayahuasca and deva contact through the medicine. “The Garden Island” (2002) and the Kalalau descents — the deva of Kaua’i communicating self/soil unity; the amakua and the aina. Academy years: “Song of the Land” and “Dancing with the Deva” (2005). The Shinto lineage: misogi cleansing with the kami, learned at Matsubadojo in Kings Beach with Sensei Barish and Jason House — practiced across the Quest in freezing water to cleanse aspects of the self (“Cleansing with the Kami” 2009, “The Faery Pools” 2014, the Ashland faerie pools). “Agents of the Aina” (2019).
The deva relationship, the Faerie relationship, and the aina relationship are the same revelation through different faces — the relationship that eventually becomes the Grove of Life and the documentation of the Atlas of the Underlands.
