“The Tower”

"Endings and Beginnings" – November 16th, 2001

Flashback – September 11, 2001

I had been living at Tillary Tower when it happened, and had seen the World Trade Centers fall from the view of my rooftop just across the bridge. It was the end of the Old World, and I knew it.
In the tarot, there is a card called ‘the Tower’. It is one of the Major Arcana, signifying archetypical events which happen along our lives, and often but not always speaks to a great disaster of some form, a crashing from the tower to the ground. For me, the crash of the planes against the towers was the death knell of the old paradigm, metal birds crashing into windows dark with the soot of the industry of avarice and economic greed. They were a symbol of the countries global economic positioning, and as such were an attack on that position itself and the means used to achieve it. This was. not the right use of power. There had to be a better way. There had to be a better world.

“It was like watching the city hemorrhage, all the displaced people moving across the bridge covered in the ash of the towers fall. It was the closest the people of New York had been to real catastrophe, and they had no idea how to handle it. I could feel the wave of terror moving through the field …”
“It was like a version of New York that could be, but wasn’t. A place of colors and expansion and light far removed from the hammering intensity of ambition and fear that drifted in noxious clouds of asbestos and rain.”

Life in the city was chaos. At one point I encountered a vast protest, with people gathered holding signs as if they were the harbingers of an apocalypse.
It was the same pattern all over again. Media lied. Words and images were used to manipulate the people. To influence them into a frenzy of decisions that led to a cycle of pain and anguish. Stories were used in service to sin.
“I could feel the minds of the people, the stalwart and uneasy stances of the police officers. Their training to hold a stance of intimidation towards the guilty and the innocent felt like rusted iron. Was this all there was? People being managed by people in a wash of shared terror? Was there any respite?”

New Beginnings

“A vision comes to me then, one reminiscent of the Stephen King books i’d read as a child. I saw the fall of the twin towers back to the earth as the fertilizer for something else, for a new Tower wrought in a field of roses and surrounded by rainbow light. While it was a tragedy, it simultaneously spoke to the cycles of life, to the death and rebirth of civilizations and the lives of the people within them.”

“It was in 2024 that I realized the movies which happened just around the time I started the Quest.” said Peter. “Like so many aspect of the unfoldment, it was something I would realize only much later on the journey that spoke volumes to the energies moving through the field.”
“How so?” Calliope asked, as the fields around the library began to shift and change to show the characters from the popular movies ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’.
“Because” replied Peter, “everything that happens, every movie, every film, every piece of media which evokes the soul of the people happens for a reason. The why of a thing is intrinsically connected to it’s when, and it was soon after the fall of the old paradigm’s towers that the first of the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings films were released. Both spoke of the initiation of the heroic journey, and while I didn’t consider it at the time, they were a precursor to my own journey into the Mythica, representing the end of the prequel to the Quest and the threshold of the beginning.”
“That’s fascinating!” said Calliope. “So you had no sense of the connection between the films and what was to come?”
“If I did, it wasn’t conscious.” said Peter, “yet the significance of their appearance in the ethers of the Akasha marked a rebirth in the people’s belief in their own magic, setting off a wave of vibrations which would give rise to an endless stream of stories about any number of young adults learning to harness their skills in magical academies alongside a blossoming of actual schools of magic appearing across the globe. The Harry Potter series would inspire the children of a whole new generation to look beyond the veil of the mundane reality into what could be.”

“The trend of the heroic journey into the worlds of magic which related to a series of books that had changed the very shape of the world culture would continue with ‘The Fellow of the Ring’, the first in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ series. It also solidified the idea of the Adversary, of the Shadow which obscured the light of our highest and most noble selves. Here, just like in Harry Potter, the Quest was to face that shadow, to find a way to redeem or remove it from one’s path, and make the journey to a more heavenly earth.”
