“The Hero Discovered”

"The Hero Defined" – September 3rd, 1984

1984 – The Neverending Story – For the Empress
Everything changed there, the shapes of the people and my attire shifting subtly like a liquid costume. I knew it was a dream, and yet it was so real.

I was both Bastion and Atreyi in that moment. We all were.

“What is it?” she asked.
“You keep changing.” I replied. “You’re like three people at once.”
“I have many faces” she said to me. “Many aspects that shift and change.”
“In stories?”
She smiled. “Yes. Always in stories.”
Yet I knew the world of Fantasia was real, and she needed a champion. Someone to stay and carry on the fight. Here was a good cause. A thing worthy of fighting for.

Stories took you to other worlds.

1984 – Guardian of the Green

There was a majesty to Moore’s writing, something that felt both sensual and erudite which impressed me. It spoke volumes to the energies that lay beneath the stories which held such gravity, where his representation of the Swamp Thing as the guardian of the Green struck a chord in my deepest heart.

1984 – The Hero Discovered
Another series that stuck me was ‘Mage – The Hero Discovered’ by Matt Wagner. There was something in the energies which existed beneath the art, which spoke to the qualities of story that moved through myself and others, singing in the resonances of inspiration itself.

Here I saw, the myths were forever … changing their shape to fit the Ages.
