Walking the Bifrost
Step onto it, traveller: the rainbow road is beneath your feet right now. Walking the Bifrost is the practice of consciously traversing the rainbow road between the realms of the World Tree — the intentional movement from your current position in the underlands toward a new configuration of consciousness and circumstance, using the elemental energies of the natural world as the vehicle and the medium of the journey. In the Norse cosmological tradition, the Bifrost is the rainbow bridge that connects the world of ordinary human experience to the higher realms of the gods — the shimmering, luminous arc of prismatic light that serves as the passage between different orders of reality. In the Mythica's living application of this mythic concept, walking the Bifrost means walking through the actual elemental landscape of the earth in a state of conscious attunement — allowing the primal energies of the soil, the trees, the wind, and the sky to permeate through the subtle body, replacing the distorted karmic codes within the self with their pristine, primal aspects in Nature herself.
The practice involves a specific quality of presence and receptivity: moving barefoot through the landscape when possible, softening the tensions held in the body, breathing in conscious alignment with the rhythms of the natural world, and opening to receive the elemental information that the land is always broadcasting through its own subtle field. In this state of open, attentive movement, the World Tree communicates directly through the medium of the physical environment — through the specific quality of the light, the particular arrangement of the trees, the sounds of water and wind, and the felt sense of the elemental energies as they move through the subtle body. The practitioner receives what the Mythica calls 'codes of renewal and regeneration made of the very elements themselves.'
Walking the Bifrost is simultaneously a meditative, a therapeutic, and a navigational practice. It is meditative in that it cultivates the quality of present-moment attunement and elemental receptivity that is the foundation of all subtle perception. It is therapeutic in that it releases the karmic contractions held in the nervous system by replacing them with the primal coherence of the natural elemental field. And it is navigational in the most literal sense: as you walk through the landscape in this state of attunement, you are also walking between the realms of the underlands, moving from one position on the World Tree to another through the physical medium of actual movement across the surface of Gaia. Documentation of this movement — in image, in word, in the tracking of the synchronicities that arrive along the way — is the sacred cartographic record of the Bifrost walk, the living map of the rainbow road as it has been actually traveled.
