"Elements of Magic" – March 17, 2005

Once more divination came to me through the myths of the modern media, this time through a series called "Avatar – The Last Airbender" on Nickolodeon

Everything was the elements.  While in the subtle layers of perception they played out as the elements themselves they expressed themselves through the various qualities of being human, through what we would otherwise consider ordinary aspects of life.  Yet whether we were cooking food, doing our taxes, cleaning our house or doing formal ritual, it was all made of the same stuff – the same elements that made up all the aspects of life.  The secret of magic was that there was no mundane world – only the mundane entry into what was.  Everything was magic, seen at depth.

Our world was made of the elements, and we divined our own elemental substance through the systems of divination.  In astrology, I was a libra, a cardinal of Air.

Accordingly all of our powers and talents were elemental.

What the people missed was subtle and sublime, for the truth was everything we did was magic.  Every action, every thought, every intention made from the very elements of the land herself.

Around this time we were going deep into the tarot, looking into the elemental energies that were contained inside ourselves and inside the people who occurred on our path.  The idea of the “dark handsome stranger” or the “hidden opportunity” or the like began grounding out for me into the very people, places and circumstances of our lives.  I was seeing the elements of our existence playing out in the cards.
