The Books of Fae

2014-12-14 – "Wynden Keep"

"…Burned from Adrienne's insistence that I leave the temple and with no other recourse, I make my way northwards, to take sanctuary with the good people of the Wynden clan at the crossroads of the rainbow bridge that is Wynden Keep …  here, the wounds of Family continue to heal, as I begin to feel a safety and inclusion growing slowly within the seed of my being … …"

Family & Fellowship

December 14, 2014

With my world packed once again into the back of my truck, I make my way northwards back towards the City of Portals, finding my way to my noble allies at Wynden Keep.

In their graciousness, I am given sanctuary in a small cabin outside the main house.  It is a place for me to cool my fires, to rest and heal from the shifts in my world.

It was soothing to be there.  Not since the Academy had I felt such a consistency of the sacredness of the Moon.  Of the sweet intimacy of connection with the sacred Land and the cycle of the seasons.  It was a place of resonance, closer to the Homelands, to the places of honor and fellowship that embodied the noble ideal.  Such were the realms of the Rose and the Bard, the wisdom of the woods and the water that defined the royalty of Faerie.

To be amongst my fae kin was soothing to the hammering that was going on whenever I went anywhere near the aka of family.

Most especially, North is welcome here, finding his place amongst the familiars and totems of the clan.  Over the years, North had become a benchmark of resonance, where only those who had touch with the Wild would be right for our sanctuary and sharing.

Nobles of faerie

A beauty of the bardic happens in the evening as I travel to watch the latest installment of the Hobbit series with the Lopez and Wynden clan …

Things on the surface plane are merely an echo of Faerie.  Of the underlands which underlie our stories.

While it looked on the surface like a pair of families leaving the movies was something much deeper.  More grand and more poignant, for we were made of the story we had seen on the screen.

Artifacts of Adventure

The pamphlets were old, the original printing of the bardic spell that appeared on the surface of the world as the Dungeons and Dragons roleplaying game.  That McLain, flush in the embodiment of his own character in the Great Story amidst a flurry of similar would have such a thing gave their possession new significance.  Artifacts of Creation from the first breath of the game which had reminded us both that there was a more magical reality that existed if we only dared to explore.

Everything exists in context, after all.  McLain had traveled with Patience Yanderling and myself on the Faerie Roads of Scotland in 2009, and we had shared many adventures through the realms.

A Court of Roses

The solstice celebration is one of deep magic, happening during the shortest day and longest night of the year.

Every time I see McLain with his children it is surreal, for his countenance flickers beneath the surface, both the man he is in this moment and the adventurer who traveled the “Faerie Roads” with me happening simultaneously, moving like layers within a living movie.

Ladies & Lions

I can feel it.  Smell it.  The scent of the primal world.  Of the aina.  It sings through her, and I feel comforted by it … reminded of the scent of Home.
